There is often a misconception that there is a set cost for dental implants. The fees are calculated based on the amount of time the dentist or dental specialist anticipates spending to complete treatment (implant placement, other surgical procedures, fabrication of replacement teeth, etc...) as well as the estimated cost of implants, other components and materials necessary to complete treatment and dental laboratory fees. That being said, the quote you were given ($35,000) for a full set of implant supported dentures is not unusually high. The only way to accurately estimate the cost for dental implants is to have an examination and consultation with a dentist or dental specialist.

I have been thinking about getting dental implants but can't afford them. My dentures are constantly slipping, and I hate having to take them out to clean them. I know I need to get them adjusted, but I'd much rather have implants. The cost for a full set of implant supported dentures blew my mind. I was quoted $35,000 by one specialist. Does that seem too high?

A study done at the Imperial College London and published (2009) in the
Journal of the American Medical Association found that high levels of C-reactive protein (CRP) in the blood probably don’t cause hardening of the arteries or heart disease. After analyzing more than 100,000 people, the researchers concluded that C-reactive protein does not play a direct role in increasing a person's risk for cardiovascular disease. The study did not discount the fact that elevated CRP levels may still be a marker of disease risk.

As a dentist, I totally agree with Dr. Steinberg's point. I see gum diseases every day and can say the situation is far from becoming better... at least in Mesa, AZ.

Heart disease and gum disease are the most widespread diseases in the Western industrialized world. They pose a substantial health threat to populations worldwide. Coronary heart disease is a leading cause for premature death, and periodontitis is the major cause for tooth loss in adults over 40 years. Both diseases are characterized by a chronic inflammatory process. Recent genetic studies have identified a region of the human genome as having an influence on heart disease. The same region (near the CDKN2A and CDKN2B genes) is also associated with an increased risk for gum disease. The interplay between gum disease and heart disease could be partially due to a shared genetic risk.

This post is really very useful for gaining knowledge about dentures. There are alternatives to dentures available today. Dental implants offer reliable and long-lasting results for patients of any age who are missing teeth or who have loose, decayed or broken teeth. Still, dentures are the more economical option for those with a lot of missing teeth.
